Hello, my name is Ryan and I’m a queer performance making shapeshifter originally from the UK and currently based in Amsterdam.
I shift between making aesthetically-sharp, physical driven contemporary theatre projects (like I_RAN, Sync, FOG BOX) to making trashy, camp, cabaret turns (XPat, Annette Curtain) to collaborative working with exciting collectives (YAK, INTERVAL, Reckless Sleepers), to off-stage work as a Technaturg [technician/dramaturg] (Tom Marshman, Vicky Maier).
Saturated through all these shapes is a practice of joy, spectacle and play. Projects are usually devised, scored and ambivalent; permeating with a feeling of queer otherness.
Alongside as my own practice, I am also part of Anglo-Belgian theatre collective Reckless Sleepers, produced Flare International Festival, and helped present work internationally to: UK, France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, Spain, Italy, India, Egypt
I am a proud Alumni of the Contemporary Theatre & Performance programme at Manchester Metropolitan University and Bristol based, artist-led collective INTERVAL.
Recently, I graduated from the MA HOME OF PERFORMANCE PRACTICES at ArtEZ, Arnhem (NL). Conducting a two-year artistic research into ambivalence in performance through the lenses of camp and joy. You can read my final thesis, watch my final performance and dive further into the research using this link.
